Sivan Tuchman is a research analyst at the Center on Reinventing Public Education, where she studies how educators and families experience the implementation of innovative policies and programs in K–12 schools and the systems that support them. Sivan also focuses on quantitative policy analysis, particularly in regard to expanding the use of quantitative measures to study diverse learners. Prior to joining CRPE, Sivan completed her PhD in education policy at the University of Arkansas where focused her research on policies affecting students with disabilities and school choice. Her work spans school choice policies (private schools, charters, virtual schooling, and homeschooling), as well as outcomes for students in special education (academic achievement, identification changes, school discipline, and satisfaction). Sivan also spent eight years teaching special education in private, charter, and traditional public schools, as well as coaching general education teachers in supporting students with disabilities in inclusive settings. Sivan holds a PhD in Education Policy from the University of Arkansas Department of Education Reform, a BA in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley, and holds a California Educational Specialist credential in mild/moderate disabilities.
